Maine is a wondrous and beautiful state, with equally wondrous and beautiful things to do! It’s no wonder people have been traveling to Maine as one of their annual destinations for years!
In the state that pride’s itself in coining the phrase “the way life should be” — there’s enough diversity in our activities and adventures to satisfy anyone and everyone!
From hiking the mountains, forests, rivers and lakes, to golfing, hunting, camping and shopping — the adventure never ends!
Here is a list of some of our favorite activities and places to go, do, and see while visiting our Northeastern paradise!
Lighthouses and Sightseeing
If traveling to Maine for the first time, you should know that one of the beauties Maine is best known for is our vast coastline (3,478 miles to be exact), which includes a large amount of scenic and historic lighthouses!
There are several ways to experience the 60+ lighthouses of Maine, to include boat tours, sunset cruises, or just good old-fashioned road trips.
We have the beautiful Acadia All-American Highway, the Old Canada Road Scenic Byway, the Rangeley Lakes National Scenic Byway, and the Schoodic National Scenic Byway!
Or take a trip to the beautiful Islands of Casco Bay on one of their year-round vessels that travel to, from and around the six islands.
Hiking and Nature
A fantastic way to get to know our state on a personal level is to take to the rocks! Visit the beautiful Acadia National Park or challenge yourself even further by visiting the steep mountains of western Maine.
You can visit a combination of both state and federal parks such as Acadia, Mt. Blue, or even the famous Appalachian Trail.
Whether you want to get some new clothes for you, a small trinket to remember your trip by, or perhaps you’re shopping for family or friends back home — regardless of what you’re looking for, Maine offers unique and timeless shopping experiences for everyone!
Maine has a plethora of boutique shops, antique stores with fascinating memorabilia, stuffed lobster animals for the kids, or cool lighthouse magnets!
Not to mention all of the clothing options! From Portland and Augusta, to Bar Harbor, Bangkok, and the borders of Canada, you’re sure to find several things you’re going to want to take home with you.

Spas, Health, & Fitness
Who doesn’t love a good spa day?
Enjoy a variety of spa options all across our beautiful state for unwinding, reflecting and reviving.
There’s nothing like enjoying the fine and rejuvenating experience of a spa, while looking out at the beautiful ocean or snow-covered mountain tops of the wilderness.
A visit to Spruce Point Inn Resort and Spa could do just that!
Depending on the time of year, you may want to avoid the green while there’s the white covering it!
But for our warm summer and fall months, Maine has over 130 incredible golf courses to check out, to include everything from 9-hole to 18-hole courses.
The Maine State Golf Association prides itself in being “a full service state golf association that promotes the game for men, women, and children at all levels of play, delivers quality services to Member Clubs and players, and collaborates in its mission with allied associations.”
With courses listed and separated by Northern Maine, Southern Maine, or by 9-hole or 18-hole, The Maine Golf Trail offers an excellent resource for you to find the perfect course to go get your swing on.
